Like so many Feeding America network and national office staff, Rodney Bivens, founder and executive director of The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, left the comforts of his home to help re-establish food bank operations in southern Louisiana. In a series of blog posts, Rodney documented his experience at the Baker facility.
In the days after the hurricane, I traveled with some colleagues through the Gulf Coast to hand out emergency food boxes and meet some of the residents who’d lost everything. Our journey ended at the Baker warehouse as it was being cleaned and loaded with the first pallets of supplies and water. Reading Rodney’s posts really brought back the sense of well-controlled chaos that we witnessed there.
